The APOYO: Supporting and Advancing Student Nurses in South Texas grant project is a five-year, Department of Education Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions program. It is a proactive response and comprehensive strategy to provide holistic support to undergraduate nursing students and open opportunities for students to share high-impact experiences that facilitate advancement into the high demands of the nursing profession. The APOYO framework focuses on developing nursing student wellness through faculty-to-student mentorship in clinical and research pathways, peer mentorship, financial literacy, mental health resilience, academic support, and building a national data center for Hispanic Nursing Student Success.
