First class in Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences program graduated this spring
The first cohort of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences program graduated in May. The program is designed to prepare students for application to graduate programs in the health care field, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and allied health.
School of Health Professions programs hold inaugural hooding ceremonies
Two School of Health Professions programs started a new tradition this spring by holding pre-commencement hooding ceremonies for their graduating students.

The Doctor of Occupational Therapy Class of 2025 celebrated its accomplishments in scholarship, leadership, service and research during its white coat and recognition ceremony on May 3 in Holly Auditorium.
The students received their white coats and pins at the end of their second year in the program and ahead of their final year, which includes a capstone experience.
Master of Physician Assistant Studies Class of 2026 receives white coats
Fifty-nine members of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies Class of 2026 received white coats and pins on May 24 in front of a full house of family and friends at Holly Auditorium.
Although for some health professions programs, receiving the white coat traditionally marks the transition from the classroom phase to the clinical phase of the program, MPAS students receive their white coats in their first year, following orientation.

Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty and students present and compete at Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association convention
Faculty and students from the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders attended the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention in Fort Worth in February.
The program’s team of three second-year students competed in a multi-round Praxis Bowl competition among Texas universities. Teams answered timed practice questions for the Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology, the standardized exam required for certification.
Two health professions students earn Distinction in Research designation
For Grace Holliday, a second-year Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology student graduating in May, participating in the School of Health Professions’ Distinction in Research program just might have changed the trajectory of her career.
“I feel like it has opened this whole other world to me that I never thought I would be a part of,” said Holliday, whose research project studies the effect of anxiety on cognition after mild traumatic brain injury, also known as concussion.
