The School of Health Professions hosts annual meeting of allied health deans

Southern Association of Allied Health Deans at Academic Health Centers 2021 annual meeting

The School of Health Professions hosted the 2021 annual conference of the Southern Association of Allied Health Deans at Academic Health Centers.

Held June 16–18, the meeting had originally been scheduled for April 2020 but was postponed several times because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Deans from 13 academic health centers attended the meeting, which featured a presentation on chronic care and rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients, a visit to the Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies and Medical Arts and Research Center (MARC), a tour of the Թ Long and Greehey campuses and the site of the future Թ Multispecialty and Research Hospital, and a visit with Թ President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP. The deans also heard presentations from the school’s program chairs and had the opportunity to ask questions.

“At a time when the important role of health professions is particularly evident, we were pleased to host this meeting as an opportunity to learn from each other and support our shared commitment to excellent allied health education,” said School of Health Professions Dean and Professor David Shelledy, PhD, RRT, RPFT, FAARC, FASAHP.

Deans from the following institutions attended the conference: The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, University of the Incarnate Word, University of Central Florida, Medical University of South Carolina, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Baylor College of Medicine, East Carolina University, University of Florida, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Թ, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
