New LibGuide on Conducting a Literature Review and More

Briscoe Library

By Karen Barton

Briscoe Library continuously strives to acquire or create resources that can contribute to the success of Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï students, faculty, and staff. The Conducting a Literature Review LibGuide is a new subject guide that can be found among many others at libguides.uthscsa.edu. The Hub LibGuide is also new and provides instructions for using the library’s virtual reality and other software. The library is always open to ideas from the campus community regarding new LibGuides and other resources.

Recently, the library requested a free trial of PolicyMap, which Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï users may access through August 31 using the following link: . PolicyMap is a mapping tool that provides a range of national data about local communities from public and private sources. It allows users to layer available data, generate reports and tables independent of maps, analyze trends over time, upload their own data, and more. PolicyMap is very useful for research as well as for grant applications as the data provided includes demographics, housing, income, health, environmental conditions, and education. You may find PolicyMap’s extensive list of data indicators at .

The library would greatly appreciate your feedback on PolicyMap. Please contact Karen Barton, the SHP Liaison Librarian, at bartonkd@uthscsa.edu if you would like assistance in using the free trial or to attend an instructional PolicyMap webinar in the library on Monday, July 30 from 2-3 p.m.

Additionally, the library has been given temporary site licenses for Visible Body () through July 31 and may be able to extend this license by request. Visible Body provides 3D apps for anatomy and physiology and also provides tools for instructors that may be integrated with Canvas. If you are a faculty member interested in taking a look at Visible Body, please contact Karen Barton at bartonkd@uthscsa.edu for a license key and instructions.

The library would also like to inform all schools that cash prize amounts for the Image of Research photography competition for students, residents, and fellows have been determined. Information about the competition may be found at library.uthscsa.edu.
