Delta Dental supports care of the underserved
The School of Dentistry’s Department of Developmental Dentistry has been awarded a generous grant of $50,000 by Delta Dental’s Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Care Foundation to support patient care activities of the Ricardo Salinas Pediatric Dental Clinic and Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï Laredo Dental Clinic.
The Ricardo Salinas Pediatric Dental Clinic is a distinctive collaboration between the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, Children’s Shelter of San Antonio, Texas Cavaliers, and the Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï School of Dentistry’s Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program. The Laredo Dental Clinic is made possible with the partnership of the City of Laredo’s Health Department.
Both not-for-profit clinics serve a primarily Hispanic population of underserved and underinsured children. They are also the only dental clinics in San Antonio and Laredo that provide dental services on a sliding fee schedule based on family income.
Staffed by School of Dentistry pediatric dental faculty, residents, and staff, the clinics offer comprehensive dental care including preventative dentistry, emergency care, and restorative dental care to families that do not have the resources to visit a private practicing pediatric dentist.
The Delta Dental grant will be split between both clinics to support the school’s commitment to patient-centered dental care. For more information about these clinics, please visit the School of Dentistry's Satellite Clinics webpage.
